Christopher C. Voeglie - Principle Investigator / Analyst

Prior to Voeglie & Associates, Mr. Voeglie served as a senior level investigator with the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and as a New Jersey law enforcement officer.  For over 14-years Mr. Voeglie served with the NTSB as an investigative Group Chairman, Project Manager and as an Investigator In Charge of both regional and major investigations. Mr. Voeglie served as the agency’s senior technical expert regarding heavy vehicle factors and event data forensics. He provided technical advice, review and expertise to Safety Board management and investigative staff as well as to other Federal, State and local authorities.

In addition to accident investigation and reconstruction Mr. Voeglie specialized in mechanical forensics and event data recovery and analysis while providing focus and direction to investigative teams. He developed office policy and managed numerous highway safety programs, symposiums and public hearings at the NTSB, in addition to monitoring emerging technologies and concepts in vehicle design and event data recording technology, standards and rulemaking.

While assigned to the Office of the Director, he provided consultative and investigative services on all accidents investigated by the Office of Highway Safety at the Safety Board. He provided technical expertise in the formulation, development, research, analysis, coordination and management of complex and/or controversial highway transportation and vehicle safety issues, studies and special investigations which ultimately led to new or revised Federal regulations and industry standards.

Mr. Voeglie established the NTSB’s use of highway vehicle event data and functioned as the agency’s sole expert while providing technical support regarding International, Federal, State and local investigations. He represented the NTSB in related activities, including conferences, symposiums, public hearings and served on both government and industry working groups including the Society of Automotive Engineers, ASTM and IEEE working groups.

Mr. Voeglie has conducted passenger car, tractor trailer and motorcoach vehicle testing including vehicle dynamics, air brake system analysis, and electronic control module (ECM – “Black box”) studies. He has authored and presented on several topics with respect to accident investigation and reconstruction, commercial vehicle inspection and event data collection and analysis. He has consulted on and or participated in nearly every major highway accident the NTSB investigated from 1996 to 2011. During his career he was recognized for numerous achievements and was also honored as Investigator of the Year for 2001-2002.

Prior to serving with the NTSB, Mr. Voeglie served for nearly a decade as a law enforcement officer where he specialized in accident investigation and reconstruction. The majority of his career was spent in traffic safety where he was responsible for the over-sight of traffic enforcement, accident investigation, reconstruction and training. During his law enforcement career he served as the officer in charge of Traffic Safety and also served as a Vehicular Homicide Unit Investigator with the County Prosecutor’s Office. During his career he was recognized for numerous achievements and was also honored as Police Officer of the Year for 1994-1995.
